Focus and Scope

This journal is intended as a mechanism for the submission and publication of the undergraduate research thesis at the School of Engineering and Information Technology (SEIT), (formerly the Schools of Aeronautical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering (ACME) and Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE)) at UNSW Canberra. It serves to mimic as closely as possible the actual research process and publication of the research results.

This journal was previously known as UNSW@ADFA Journal of Undergraduate Engineering Research.

This journal provides the students with opportunity to prepare technical documents in standard scholarly journal format, submit them online using the same procedures that researchers do, act as peer reviewers for the work of fellow students, and ultimately see their work published. Through the online journal submission environment the students are exposed to one aspect of the research world. Through the peer review part of it, they are exposed to another aspect and, most importantly, they are required to THINK.

Articles published herein have been accepted as fulfilling the requirements of a final report on a research or design project in engineering. They are reviewed submissions by students undertaking a BE degree at UNSW Canberra at ADFA.
(There were two issues annually prior to 2010. The first issue publishes the initial thesis reports and the second issue publishes the final thesis reports.)

Peer Review Process

The review policy for this journal is as follows.

Each submission by an author (student in the "Research thesis" course) to the journal will be reviewed by two staff reviewers selected by the editors, both of which will be examiners of the research project. Originally, a third student reviewer was selected for the initial report and will act as an oral examiner for the initial thesis report published in the first issue of each volume. While the first reviewer is usually the thesis supervisor, the second reviewer is selected by the edtiors and may remain anonymous except to the editors. The editors may elect to review the peer review. Since 2010 there has been no student reviewer, and only the final report is included in the publication.

The manuscript will be published in the journal in its original form with no post-review modifications required.

Publication Frequency

The publication schedule is as follows.

One volume will be published each year corresponding to the final reports that summarise the findings in a research and/or design study (with two issues prior to 2010, corresponding to the initial and final thesis reports) that are submitted in the `project/thesis' course for the electrical, aeronautical, civil and mechanical engineering degrees at SEIT, UNSW Canberra at ADFA. Each issue will be published on the finalisation of the examination process, which includes a peer review process.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
