Manufacture and Material Characterisation of Aramid Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites

Abstract


This project will examine the manufacture and material characterisation of an aramid fibre reinforced thermoplastic using high density polyethylene reinforced with Kevlar. It will also include a comparative study against existing aramid thermoset and non-aramid thermoplastic composites. Most of the manufacture and testing procedures will be carried out within the facilities located at UNSW@ADFA. The hot press machine located in the composite laboratory will be used for the manufacture of the composite panels and the Shimadzu test rig will be used for the testing phase. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards will be used as guidelines for testing.
