National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ground Station: Azimuth-Elevation Mount

Clare Randall

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) maintains a variety of satellites which, among other functions, transmit live weather images that can be captured by anyone with the appropriate equipment. Projects have previously been conducted in the former School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering to develop both a parabolic reflector antenna with an azimuth-elevation mount, which is capable of tracking the satellite signal, and the software required to interpret the received data. However, the existing mount lacks the stability to point the antenna with accuracy, making it impossible to consistently acquire or track the satellite signal. This project will build upon the previous development of the NOAA Ground Station to produce a stable, effective mount for the antenna.
