RDTE a Parachute Recovery System for a UAV

Abstract


The ability to safely recover a UAV in the event of flight failure is of significant importance. SEIT has already incurred damages to existing aircraft at some expense as a result of flight failures. Therefore, this project has looked into the background of parachute deployment systems and the cost-benefit of employing one. From this, the successful research, development, testing and evaluation of a parachute recovery system for use on a small experimental UAV was carried out. The project’s emphasis was placed on the parachute release mechanism within the parachute recovery system, with the end result of a functional hybrid spring release and pilot chute prototype.
