A Physical Approach to Determining whether DoS Attacks Jeopardise the Nyquist Stability Criterion of Wireless Control Systems

Abstract


In recent times, research into stability of wireless control systems under Denial of Service (DoS) attacks has gained popularity. However, most literature only explores mathematical modelling and computer generated simulations. This report provides a new experimental
approach to the modern concept of system stability during cyber attack, by way of physical modelling. Traditional control theory using concepts from the work of Bode and Nyquist will be used in conjunction with modern DoS attack techniques. Finally, conclusions are made from successful experimental procedures that DoS attacks can lead to instabilities of Wireless Control Systems, with recommendations for future work.
